An educational trip was the last thing that Tanis was interested, but if it meant she could get away from her crazy-ass family then she was completely gung-ho. It wasn't that there was anything wrong with them it was just -- wait a minute, scratch that. There's everything wrong with them.

In either case, Tanis had had a enough of their feeble attempts to make it look like they weren't keeping an eye on her. As if she would get hurt or something, like some baby. She cracked her skull open when she was 2 hours old and still lived to tell the tale. She's practically a cockroach!

Whatever.

Anyways, she was headed to China with Eris to visit the Great Wall (again), but it was still more fun to commune with the unfortunate builders of the massive thing than trying to talk to Ares (another massive thing surrounded by dead people) or something.

So when Eris had come around the corner with the teleportation rune ready to go, the only thing keeping Tanis in Olympus was Eris' slow pace. The spell took effect and she was spirited away some thousands of miles and landed with a clack as the heels of her boots hit pavement.

Wait a minute, pavement?

Tanis looked around, she was nowhere near the Wall and instead found herself in the middle of a city. She made a quick 360 looking for Eris who was also nowhere to be seen. A large sign that blurred past during the turn attracted Tanis' attention. For a moment she couldn't help but stare dumbly at the words upon the surface.

"Wait a minute, this isn't the Great Wall of China, this is the Great Mall of China! Gods fucking dammit! ERIIIIIIIIIS!"

A dozen blocks away, startled birds took flight and sped away from the shrieking cries of what they thought was some kind of demon.

He’d always known that his cousins were no good at directions, but this was ridiculous. “It’s the Great Wall of China,” Prometheus mocked in a falsetto voice. “How hard can it be to find. You’ll be taller than everyone there. Stupid girls.” It was easy to get mad at them for his own inability to follow a map, but they said China, so he went to China. That had been easy, it wasn’t that far a run, especially since he didn’t run like a mortal. He ran over mountains, for the gods’ sakes. He’d probably pissed Tanis off by saying he’d rather crawl all the way then get her to take him with a transportation spell, but he’d done that once, and that was more than enough.

Eris had been right though. He was taller than everyone. That was good, because then he could see where he was. Unfortunately, he didn’t know any Chinese, which made it totally pointless.

There was an earsplitting shriek from somewhere far off, and Prometheus smiled. He knew his cousin’s scream anywhere. He took off, long legs eating up the ground and turning his surrounding into a striated blur. Skidding to a halt on pavement, he got his bearings, and looked around. Red hair caught his eye first and he jogged over.

“Oi, Tani,” he said, breathing slightly heavily. “What the hell is wrong with you?” He looked around. “Where’s Eris?”

"That's a good fucking question!" Tanis yelled back at Meeth before fully realizing who it was.

After doing a double take, Tanis continued, "I was supposed to go to the Great Wall today with Eris, but then I land here. I WASN'T EVEN THE ONE CASTING THE SPELL! It was little miss I-lurve-chaothhhhhh."

"Which," she said, suddenly quiet, "means that..."

"SHE DID IT ON PURPOSE."

Slightly dismayed by the fact that one of the only members of her family that she happened to like had apparently just stabbed her in the back, Tanis leaned heavily into the giant metal sign that declared the mall's location boldly.

“Dude.” Prometheus walked over to Tanis but didn’t touch her in case she decided to rip his face off. “It’s Eris. I don’t know where you’ve been, but she’s kinda off. I mean, anyone who is the goddess of chaos and spite and crap like that is bound to be.”

He glanced around the mall, which looked like any other mall only he couldn’t read any of the signs and the people were shorter. Not that that made his life much different, but it was still something to note.

“Okay, so maybe she did it on purpose, but she might have had a reason.” He wasn’t sure what else to say. “You’re not going to make me comfort you, are you?”

Tanis shot a glare at Prometheus along with the comment, "I know very well what Eris is like, it's why I like her. I was really looking forward to playing tricks on tourists with her though."

It was possible that Eris had dropped Tanis off here for a reason, but highly unlikely. She sighed, looking up at the giant mall. It wasn't that Tanis didn't like to shop, she just didn't like to shop with family. Even dragging an angry Nova around was more enjoyable that having her mother say, 'My, that looks lovely, Tani-dearest. Why don't you dress like this more often?'

Tanis shuddered slightly at the memory. She wore skirts, wasn't that enough?

"No, I don't want you to comfort me. You'd probably break stones if you comforted them."

She turned towards the massive entrance of the mall and debated on whether she should enter or not.

“Whoa, unnecessary cruelty,” Prometheus complained, turning around in a complete circle and trying to figure out what the hell was going on around here. He forgot how much he hated malls. Shopping was a girl thing and therefore he was not interested. Also, he felt incredibly tall and obvious and he didn’t like it. “Watch it or I’ll report you to the ASPCA or something.”

Something that smelled incredible wafted through the mall and his stomach rumbled. It took a lot of energy to run around like he’d been doing, especially because he required more fuel than most other people, mortal or immortal. He began shooting surreptitious glances around him, trying to locate a place to get something to eat, preferably something that tasted slightly good.

Not that he was expecting much, this being mall food and all. Mall food always smelled better than it tasted.

“Hey, uh, Tanis?” he said awkwardly. “You got any money? I’m a little strapped for Chinese cash right now and I’m so hungry I think I might keel over and die.”
